Haiti confirms Martelly's presidential vote win

Popular-singer-turned-politician Michel Martelly was confirmed on Thursday as the winner of Haiti's March 20 presidential election, officials announced.

Final results released by Haiti's Provisional Electoral Council showed that Martelly took 67.57 percent of the vote in the March 20 election.

The council did not however, release the results of legislative elections held the same day.

The vote result clears the way for Martelly to take office on May 14, as the Western Hemisphere's poorest country sets about the task of rebuilding from a January 2010 earthquake that killed more than 225,000 people and left the capital Port-au-Prince in ruins.
