After Sandy: Deadly Repercussions of the Storm in Haiti

A brief report from alternative media team Bri Kouri Nouvèl Gaye (Noise Travels, News Spreads) looking at two of the most devastating impacts of Hurricane Sandy in Haiti. The storm hovered over the island and rained continuously for days, drenching the country. Rivers reached extraordinary levels, destroying homes, roads and bridges. Two lasting impacts of the storm have been rising food prices and hunger, and an increase in cholera deaths. Gardens were flooded and crops ruined throughout the west and south, only weeks after Isaac had already done damage. As food becomes more scarce and expensive, families are struggling to eat enough each day. Secondly, with water everywhere and so much of it contaminated, the country is also suffering a spike in cases of cholera. www.lethaitilive.org
